Introduction to the PU Waterproof Membrane
The PU waterproof breathable membrane is a hydrophilic, pore-free polyurethane functional film. It achieves the adsorption, diffusion and transmission of water vapor molecules through high-molecular hydrophilic groups. It can completely prevent liquid water from penetrating and has no risk of blocking pores. It is resistant to oil stains and sweat stains. The film is smooth, flexible, and adheres firmly to various substrates. It combines mature technology and high cost-effectiveness. The product is available in two colors: transparent and milky white. The standard weight is uniform and stable. The thickness can be customized as needed. It is widely used in daily casual waterproof shoes, basic outdoor clothing, ordinary waterproof bags and other light-duty waterproof scenarios. It is the mainstream choice for entry-level waterproof composite fabrics.
Features of PU Waterproof Membrane
Proven Hydrophilic Pore-Free Technology:
Achieves waterproofing through molecular-level "adsorption-diffusion-desorption" transfer, providing reliable water protection with zero risk of pore clogging over time, unlike microporous alternatives.
Smooth & Flexible Film Structure:
Uniform coating with soft hand feel ensures excellent wearing comfort and easy, firm lamination to diverse textile substrates without compromising fabric drape.
Oil & Sweat Stain Resistance:
Pore-free surface naturally resists oil stains, sweat stains and dirt intrusion, maintaining consistent performance and clean appearance through extended product life.
Exceptional Entry-Level Cost-Effectiveness:
Mature production technology with stable, uniform quality makes it the mainstream industry choice for daily waterproof applications where budget efficiency matters most.
Customizable Specifications:
Available in transparent or milky white, with adjustable thickness and width to meet diverse product design and processing requirements.
Wide Light-Duty Application Range:
Ideal for daily casual waterproof shoes, basic outdoor apparel, ordinary waterproof bags and other entry-level waterproof scenarios.

More Information
Will the performance drop after washing or long-term use?
With high-quality functional films and reinforced lamination, the fabrics keep stable waterproof and breathable performance after 50 standard washing cycles. The film is not easy to clog.
What is the key difference between PU and TPU waterproof membranes?
PU membrane uses a hydrophilic (pore-free) molecular transfer mechanism, offering superior oil/stain resistance and easier processing at a lower cost. TPU membrane uses either hydrophilic or microporous technology with higher elasticity, better bending endurance and superior low-temperature resistance. PU is ideal for entry-level daily waterproof products; TPU is the mainstream choice for mid-range to demanding footwear and outdoor applications.
Does the transparent PU membrane yellow or degrade over time?
Our PU membranes are formulated with UV stabilizers to resist yellowing under normal storage and usage conditions. For applications with extended sunlight or UV exposure, we recommend the milky white variant which provides inherently better long-term color stability.
Can the PU membrane be used for composite with non-textile materials?
PU membrane adheres excellently to various textile substrates. For non-textile materials (leather, synthetic leather, films), we can evaluate compatibility and provide technical recommendations. Contact our R&D team with your specific material combination requirements.
Do you make multi-layer composite fabrics?
We provide single-layer, double-layer and sandwich composite structures, and develop exclusive solutions for your demands.
